Britain bans export of services to Russia – Sanctions and Russian media

Britain today banned all exports of the service sector to Russia and imposed sanctions on 63 individuals and organizations in the latest wave of measures aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow to change course and withdraw from Ukraine.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since Russia invaded on February 24, describing London sanctions against Moscow as a way to punish President Vladimir Putin for what he calls a “special operation” war. the de-Nazification of the country.

The measures, according to the government, will cut off Russia’s access to British consulting, accounting and public relations services, consolidating a decision already made by several companies on their own, including Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC.

Many other service companies, such as advertising, have also sought to sell or close their Russian businesses, while some law firms have decided not to hire new clients.

“Doing business with the Putin regime is morally empty and helps fund a war machine that is causing unprecedented suffering across Ukraine,” said Foreign Minister Liz Tras in a statement.

“Cutting off Russia’s access to British services will put more pressure on the Kremlin and ultimately help ensure that Putin fails in Ukraine.”

Business Minister Quasi Quarteng said Britain was “escalating economic pressure on the Kremlin to change course”.

Western countries have imposed sanctions on dozens of individuals and companies in Russia since the invasion, measures that Putin says will only hit the West because of higher food and energy prices.

Britain has also imposed sanctions on individual journalists and media outlets.

“For too long, RT and Sputnik have been producing dangerous nonsense that presents it as serious news to justify Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” said Technology and Digital Economy Minister Chris Philp. “These organizations have already been shut down in Britain and we have banned anyone from doing business with them. We have now suspended their websites, accounts and social media applications to stop the spread of their lies. “.
