Britain announced 146,390 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, up from 178,250 on Friday, while the number of new deaths reported rose to 313 from 229, according to official figures.
Britain has already seen a wave of cases linked to the Omicron variant in recent weeks, although death rates have been lower than in previous waves of the disease.
About 1.227 million people tested positive for COVID-19 during the previous week, 10.6% more than the previous week, while the number of deaths increased by 38.3% compared to the previous week and amounted to 1,271.
Total deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test increased to 150,057.
