Britain-Covid-19: New case record with more than 93,000 infections

Britain today set a new Covid-19 infection record for the third day in a row, with 93,045 cases in 24 hours, breaking the record of 88,376 cases the day before.

According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, facing a “tsunami” due to the Omicron variant, Britain counts a total of 147,048 dead from Covid-19, of which 111 were recorded today.

Although in England, the British government has limited itself to reintroducing the use of the mask in most public places (excluding pubs and restaurants), encouraging teleworking as much as possible and imposing a sanction for mass rallies to the displeasure of a section of Conservative MPs, the local governments of Scotland and Wales decided to implement tougher measures.

In Scotland, where, according to Prime Minister Nicholas Sterzon, Omicron is now sovereign, citizens have been asked to stay home for Christmas. “The tsunami I warned about a week ago is now starting to hit us,” she said today.

Businesses are required by law to take “reasonable steps” today to limit the spread of the virus. The pubs were urged to return to customer service at the tables rather than at the bar.

In Wales, Prime Minister Mark Drakeford has ordered the closure of bars since December 27.
