Britain is discussing with Ukraine ways to help export grain from the country, following the blockade by Russia of its main ports, British Transport Minister Grand Saps said today.
Noting that he is very concerned about this issue, while world food prices are rising rapidly and Ukraine can not export nearly 25 million tons of grain, Saps added that he met with Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Alexander Kubrakov last week.
“We discussed details that I can not go into about how there can be an infrastructure that will ensure the departure of (loads) of grain,” Saps told Sky News.
“We are looking at all the different options (…) there are many different possible ways to get grain and other goods out of the country,” he said.
“It is absolutely essential that we do this, because otherwise there can be a lot of hunger and indeed even starvation,” he concluded.
