A large bushfire has broken out in Surrey, with smoke reaching West London and onto the Heathrow Airport runway.
Residents reported smoke more than 30 miles long, from Hankley Common in Surrey, where bushland is burning.
Surrey Fire Brigade declared the fire a serious incident and urged people to “avoid the area to allow crews to work”.
According to the fire department, “there is heavy smoke so avoid the area, windows and doors should be closed if nearby and pets should be kept indoors.”
A spokesman for Heathrow Airport told MailOnline that the fire did not affect arrivals or departures.
Today’s blaze follows a string of blazes in and around London as record temperatures have left the ground dry in recent weeks.
