Four children who on Sunday (12/12) fell into an icy Lake in the west England and suffered a cardiac arrest.
As announced by the British first aid services the children were pulled from the frozen lake waters by the rescue crewswhich were reported yesterday afternoon in Solihull, a town in south-east Birmingham.
According to eyewitnesses, the children were playing on the ice of a frozen lake and fell into the water.
“The children were pulled from the water and given CPR by firefighters and paramedics,” local fire chief Richard Stanton said at a press conference last night.
“Unfortunately the children had gone into cardiac arrest in the water and were connected to advanced life support during their transport to hospital,” said Cameron McVitie of the local ambulance service.
“They were taken to two different Birmingham hospitals in a critical condition,” he added.
Their gender and age have not been determined, nor has the length of time they were in the frozen water before being pulled from the lake.
This tally may increase as police announced that when they arrived at the scene, they were told that “up to six people had fallen into the icy waters”.
“Therefore after rescuing the four children we continued the search to verify if there were other people in the water,” explained Stanton. A team of rescuers would continue the search during the night.
“However, due to the temperature of the water, the age of those who fell into the water and the time they spent in (the lake), it is no longer a rescue operation, but rather a collection of dead bodies that may be present,” he noted.
A police officer dispatched to the scene was also taken to the hospital with mild hypothermia, Stanton also added during the press conference he gave.
Britain has been facing a cold wave since Fridaywith temperatures below zero almost everywhere in the country and significant snowfall in places.
