Test of 20 seconds to detect it coronavirus approved by the British Health Regulatory Authority, as announced today by the product distribution company launching a control system which, as it claims, can be used at airports, sports facilities and businesses.
Rapid tests are seen as a key principle in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap for lifting lockdown, but concerns have been expressed about the accuracy of existing lateral flow immunochromatographic tests, as noted by AMPE.
The test Virolens, manufactured by the British start-up iAbra in collaboration with TT Electronics, tested at Heathrow Airport and uses a pharyngeal swab to collect saliva.
Histate, the test distribution company, has announced that it will release it shortly after it is approved by the Drugs and Health Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) in the UK and looks forward to its wider release in the coming months.
According to Histate, tests have shown that the test has 98.1% sensitivity, which means that it produces few false negative results and 99.7% accuracy, which means that it produces a few false positives.
