The ONS statistical service highlighted household energy bills and gasoline prices as the biggest drivers of inflation.
The ONS reported that consumer prices rose 0.8% on a monthly basis, marking the biggest rise in February since 2009.
Last week, the Bank of England upgraded inflation estimates to more than 8% – more than four times its target – during the April-June period.
