Britain: Inflation at a new high of 30 years (upd)

LAST UPDATE 09:24

At a new 30-year high, British inflation stood at 6.2% in February, the highest range for analysts.

The average estimates of economists spoke of 5.9%.

The figures come just hours before Finance Minister Rishi Sunak announced how he would help ease the crisis by raising the cost of living.

The ONS statistical service highlighted household energy bills and gasoline prices as the biggest drivers of inflation.

The ONS reported that consumer prices rose 0.8% on a monthly basis, marking the biggest rise in February since 2009.

Last week, the Bank of England upgraded inflation estimates to more than 8% – more than four times its target – during the April-June period.
