Johnson said the coming weeks will be “the toughest.” At the same time, the prime minister added that, in his opinion, the country is entering “the last phase of the struggle.”

More than 50,000 new cases of COVID were reported in Britain on Monday. For the seventh day in a row, the indicator does not fall below this figure.

From tomorrow, British citizens cannot leave their homes except for serious reasons such as getting medical care, buying food, exercising and working for those who cannot do it from home.

All schools and colleges will switch to distance learning at least until February. Summer exams are canceled. Kindergartens will continue to work.

Restaurants may offer food delivery, but take-out alcohol will be prohibited.

Outdoor sports grounds will be closed, amateur team sports will be prohibited.

People can meet with one person from another family for outdoor walks.

Johnson spoke after the UK’s top health officials recommended raising the threat level to five, the highest.

They warned of the “significant risk of overloading the medical system” in several areas over the next 21 days. The NHS says hospitals are at a “tipping point” and that “immediate and decisive action” is needed.
