Britain is expanding vaccinations to address the Indian variant

Britain continues its plan to lift restrictions on covid-19 despite concerns about a variant coronavirus identified for the first time in India, considering the vaccines to be effective, said today the Deputy Minister of Health, responsible for the distribution of vaccines, Nadim Zahawi.

According to him, there is concern about the presence of the Indian variant in some parts of the country, but there is no evidence that B.1.617.2 variant has a more serious effect on humans or that it is not covered by existing vaccines.

“The roadmap remains in effect from Monday because vaccines work, vaccines keep people away from hospitals and from serious infection,” Zahawi told Sky News, according to AMPE.

As Zahawi added, the Britain will adapt its vaccination program to protect civilians more quickly in areas where the Indian variant has emerged.

The UK Public Health Service said the total number of confirmed cases of B.1.617.2 variant more than doubled last week to 1,313 across the UK.

The Undersecretary clarified that in the areas where this mutation has occurred, the government will intensify coronavirus diagnostic tests and will expand the vaccination campaign by granting vaccines and to younger citizens living in homes with people of different ages.

“We will extend the vaccination program to the point where doctors think it works best,” he told BBC television.
