Britain: Labor leader intends to step down if found to have breached coronavirus measures

Labor leader Kir Starmer intends to resign if police are found to have broken the rules for Covid-19 by attending a rally last year, Sky News reported, without citing a source.

Starmer is expected to make a statement later today.

The British police announced on Friday that they will investigate Starmer after receiving “important new information” about the quarantine violation. A video dating from April 2021 shows him drinking beer with other politicians indoors, during a visit to the North East of England.

Starmer, a former British attorney general, has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Finance Minister Richie Sunak after they were fined for attending a birthday party on Downing Street in June 2020.
