Britain: Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak in the final race to succeed Boris Johnson

Liz Truss will face Rishi Sunak in the final round to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of Britain, as noted by CNBC.

Trade Secretary Penny Mordant dropped out of the race on Wednesday after receiving the least support (105 votes) in the fifth round of voting among Tory MPs.

Former Finance Minister Sunak maintained his lead, winning 137 votes, while Foreign Minister Truss came in second with 113 votes.

Truss and Sunak will now face off to become leader of the Conservative Party and therefore prime minister.

The results of the final vote are expected to be announced by September 5 at the latest, with Johnson expected to remain as caretaker prime minister until then.
