Ein Davies, 38, was arrested after the plane carrying him landed at Luton Airport, north-west London. The flight had departed from Turkey, where he was serving a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence for terrorist acts, according to several British media reports.
Davis is accused of belonging to the core of IS kidnappers and killers who kidnapped and executed dozens of foreigners in Syria from 2012 to 2015. Homers, as APE-MPE reports, had baptized the group of extremists “Beatles” because of the British accent of its members.
The Metropolitan Police, which carries out counter-terrorism investigations in Britain, limited itself to saying in a statement that it had arrested a man at Luton Airport and that he had been remanded in custody, without releasing his name.
A Home Office spokesman said in a press release that a British national had been extradited from Turkey to the UK, but added that “no further information should be released while police inquiries are ongoing” against him.
Two convicted in the US
The four members of The Beatles are accused of kidnapping at least 27 journalists and aid workers from the US, UK, Europe, New Zealand, Russia and Japan.
They are brought ntortured and murdered, by beheading, the American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, as well as workers on behalf of aid organizations Peter Cussing and Kayla Miller. IS had uploaded propaganda videos of their executions to social networking sites.
Two of the Beatles, Alexandra Coty (38) and El Shafi Elsheikh (34), former British nationals, were captured in January 2018 by Kurdish paramilitaries in Syria and handed over to US forces in Iraq before moving to the UK .
They were finally extradited in 2020 to the US, where they were tried for kidnapping, conspiracy to kill US citizens and support for a foreign terrorist organization.
Coty pleaded guilty to the murders in September and was sentenced to life in prison in April. Elsheich was found guilty of all charges in April and will learn his sentence next week.
The fourth Beatles executioner, Mohammed Emouazi, was killed in a US UAV strike in Syria in 2015.
In 2014 Davies’ wife Amal El Wahhabi became the first person in the UK to be convicted of funding IS jihadists after she tried to send €20,000 to her husband in Syria. At her trial, after which she was jailed for 28 months, it was alleged that Mr Davies had been dealing drugs before going on to take up action in the jihadist ranks in Syria.
