Britain: Parents of teenage girl who lived in squalid conditions and died of complications from obesity jailed

The parents of one obese teenage girl who died aged 16 at her family’s home in Britainwhere he lived in squalid conditions, were sentenced to prison terms of more than 6 years for homicide by negligence.

Kayleigh Titford was found dead at the family home in Newton, Wales, in October 2020. The girl weighed 146kg and his living conditions were “not worthy of an animal”, the court was told.

Kayleigh, who could only get around in a wheelchair, died from an infected bedsore as a result of her obesity and the fact that she was bedridden. Her mother, Sarah Lloyd-Jones, 40, was jailed for six years at Swansea Crown Court and her father, Alan Titford, 45, was jailed for 7.5 years.

The mother pleaded guilty and was not tried, unlike the father who pleaded not guilty. In court, he said he was not involved with his daughter because she was “lazy”.

The girl lived in a dirty room, filled with bottles of urine, lying on a dog rug and wearing wet diapers. Paramedics who were called to the home on October 10, 2020 described a “rotting” smell in the room.

Before the pandemic, Kaylee attended Newton High School, and her teachers described her as “funny and talkative.” But she did not return to her school after the restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 were lifted.

According to the indictment, the girl did not get out of bed during the pandemic and subsequently could no longer fit in the wheelchair she used to use.

The father claimed that his wife was responsible for the girl and that he was relieved of his duties when Caylee entered puberty.

After the verdict and because of the “unusually painful” trial, the judge recommended that jurors consult a psychologist and excused them from jury duty for a decade.
