London police have sent a questionnaire to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as part of an investigation into rallies in Downing Street during a lockdown, his spokesman said on Friday.
“We can confirm that the prime minister has received a questionnaire from the London police. He will respond accordingly,” his spokesman said in a statement.
Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Thursday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.
Hours earlier, a newspaper had published a new photo showing the British prime minister at one of these rallies, along with two other people.
About a dozen rallies are being investigated by the police, which took place on 8 dates in 2020 and 2021.
Former British Prime Minister John Major on Thursday accused Boris Johnson of making the government appear “clearly unreliable” and ultimately undermining democracy by making “shameless excuses” to disprove Party reports.
Johnson is facing the worst crisis since taking office in 2019 for a series of revelations about a party with drinks in his office and home on Downing Street when the country was under strict measures against the coronavirus pandemic.
