Britain – Rishi Sunak v China: Torturing, Imprisoning and Brainwashing Their Own People

THE British former Minister of Finance, Rishi Sunakone of two candidates left in the race to succeed the Conservative prime minister Boris Johnsonran yesterday Sunday heavy accusations against Chinawhich he characterized “the biggest long-term threat” to the UK and argued that “they torture, imprison and brainwash their own people.”

Accusing China of how “steals our technologies and infiltrates our universities”Rishi Sunak seems to overdo it as his rival in the race for Downing Street, Liz Trusshead of British diplomacy, had already hardened his tone towards Beijing.

The campaign of the two finalists to succeed Mr. Johnson, who was forced to resign after a long series of scandals, as reported by APE-MPE, recently resembles an auction of promises on issues that concern above all the right wing of the Tories, such as immigration.

Rishi Sunak promises, if he is elected new leader of the Conservatives by the supporters of the faction, to close the 30 Confucius Institutes which are established in the United Kingdom.
Funded by the Chinese state, these institutions aim to promote China’s language and culture, but have been accused by some conservative MPs of serving the purposes of the machinery Beijing’s propaganda and espionage.

In his announcement, Mr. Sunak argues that China “supports the fascist invasion of Ukraine from Putin by buying his oil and trying to bully her neighbors, including Taiwan.”

“They load developing countries with insurmountable debts and use them to grab their reimgs or hold a diplomatic gun to their headshe shouts. “They torture, imprison and brainwash their own people, especially in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, in violation of human rights.”

“I will prevent China from gaining control of our universities and give businesses and British public relations the cyber security they need,” he continues.

Among Mr. Sunak’s promises are formation of an international alliance, on the model of NATOon “defending” against what he calls China’s technological attacks, stepping up MI5’s support to businesses and universities to “counter Chinese industrial espionage” and, even, the blocking of company exports in key sectors by Chinese companies.

The postal vote, in which an estimated 200,000 Conservative party members are eligible, starts on August 5 and ends on September 2, before the result is announced on September 5. The polls give Liz Truss a big lead.
