Britain: Russia continues to bomb Kharkiv to prevent Ukraine from using forces elsewhere

Russia is continuing its steady shelling on the northeastern front of Kharkiv to tie down Ukrainian forces and prevent them from being used for counter-attacks in other areas, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said today.

Kharkiv, which is about 15 kilometers from Russian front lines, has been bombarded steadily since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as it is within range of most Russian artillery, it said in a daily intelligence bulletin.

Seventeen people were killed and 42 wounded in two Russian attacks in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, on Wednesday and Thursday, Ukraine’s regional governor said. Russia denies it is deliberately targeting civilians in what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.
