Britain: Russia plans distraction operations as pretext for invading Ukraine

London today warned Russian President Vladimir Putin not to invade Ukraine and, according to the British Defense Secretary, the government is almost ready to present to parliament the details of a new series of sanctions it intends to use against Russia in the event of an invasion.

Ben Wallace told Times Radio that an aggressive invasion of a sovereign state would not be won.

Russia, he said, plans to launch a strategic nuclear weapons exercise soon and warned that the Kremlin was moving in the wrong direction despite efforts to find a diplomatic solution.

Wallace said Britain had seen secret information that Russia was planning a “false flag” operation as a pretext to invade Ukraine, and that it was carrying out cyber-attacks and other destabilizing actions.

“Despite the talks, it is moving in the wrong direction. The Russians are still strengthening their military forces … They are planning to launch a strategic nuclear exercise soon and we are indeed seeing more activity elsewhere,” he told BBC Radio.
