Sanctions imposed on Russian companies and Russian citizens could be lifted if Russia withdraws from Ukraine and pledges to end its aggression, British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras told the Telegraph.
“What we do know is that Russia has signed multiple agreements with which it simply does not comply. Therefore, there must be tough pressure, such as sanctions, of course,” she said.
According to her, “these sanctions can be eliminated only with a complete ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces, but also commitments that there will be no further aggression. And also, there is the possibility of re-imposing sanctions if there is further aggression in the future. “This is a real pressure lever that I think can be used.”
Liz Tras also argued that the Ukraine crisis had brought Britain and the European Union closer together, as their relationship had deteriorated significantly in the wake of Brexit.
