Britain: Sanctions on Russia’s second richest man, Vladimir Potanin

Sanctions will be imposed by Britain to the “King of Nickel”, whom he described as the second richest man in Russia. Oligarch Vladimir Potanin is on the list of people against whom the latest wave of 13 new sanctions will be imposed, including other businessmen, financial companies and other entities.

“Potanin continues to amass wealth as he supports Putin’s regime by acquiring Rosbank and shares in Tinkoff Bank after the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Reuters quoted APE as saying.

Potanin is one of the richest people in the world Russiaalthough the net worth of his fortune depends to a large extent on the value of his stake (36%) in Nornickel, the world’s largest producer of palladium and refined nickel.

The list of British sanctions states that Potanin’s name was added because “benefited from the Russian government or supported it by owning or controlling Rosbank. “Rosbank continues to operate in the Russian financial services sector, which is a sector of strategic importance to the Russian government.”
