Britain says it is determined to impose further sanctions on Russia

The British government is determined to impose further sanctions on Russia and will continue to do so until Moscow withdraws completely from Ukraine, Secretary of State Liz Tras said today.

“We are determined to provide more weapons, to impose more sanctions and to support Ukraine in excluding Russia from its territory,” she told parliament.

She said she would travel to Turkey tomorrow to discuss alternatives to transport grain from Odessa, saying it would take weeks to find a solution.

Britain, the United States and the European Union have co-ordinated the imposition of massive sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine, which Russian President Vladimir Putin has described as a “special military operation”.

“We will continue to impose sanctions, we will continue to stop importing products from Russia until we see Russia withdrawing from Ukraine,” Tra said.

Britain has targeted Russian businessmen, politicians, religious leaders and companies as part of sanctions against Moscow.
