Britain’s military intelligence agency said Russia is recruiting migrants from Central Asian countries and nationals of neighboring countries to fight in Ukraine, announced yesterday the British Ministry of Defense through X (the former Twitter).
“There are at least 6 million Central Asian immigrants in Russia who the Kremlin may consider potential conscripts”the Ministry of Defense in London claimed.
Moscow wants to avoid any new mobilization ahead of the 2025 presidential election, the post noted. “The use of foreigners allows the Kremlin to secure additional personnel for its war effort in the face of mounting losses” of Russian forces, it added.
According to the same source, Russia placed advertisements in neighboring countries such as Armenia and Kazakhstan to entice citizens of Russian origin to join the Russian army, offering an initial one-time payment of 495,000 rubles (almost 4.8 thousand euros) and a salary of 190,000 rubles, much higher than the average wages of workers in the two states.
Migrants from central Asia are reportedly being recruited from May 2023, according to the British Ministry of Defence, with promises of high wages and fast-track Russian citizenship. Some were forcibly recruited, among the Uzbek construction workers working in the Russian-controlled city of Mariupol.
Moscow has accused London has repeatedly accused London of indulging in propaganda and spreading disinformation in its daily briefings on the war in Ukraine.
