Britain: Sending troops to Ukraine ‘virtually unlikely’ if Russia escalates tensions

The United Kingdom is “virtually unlikely” to send troops to Ukraine if Russia begins to implement its rumored plans to escalate tensions around Ukraine, according to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

“It is a fact that the [Ουκρανία] is not a member of NATO. “It’s virtually impossible for a country to send troops to Ukraine, provoking Russia. We should not make fun of people for what we do,” Wallace said, according to Spectator magazine.

The British Defense Secretary added that the Ukrainians “are aware of this”.

In early December, US President Joe Biden said neither the United States nor NATO had commitments to defend Ukraine in the event of an escalation of tensions.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also said that as long as Ukraine remains outside the alliance, the country in question does not have the same security guarantees as NATO member states.

Russia has repeatedly denied allegations by Western countries and Ukraine of “aggressive actions” that it has no intention of threatening or invading any country.

However, Kiev and some Western countries have recently expressed concern about the escalation of Russia’s “aggressive actions” near its border with Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said Russia was moving its military forces within its borders at its discretion.
