Britain sends back Albanian criminals in its prisons – 1,336 criminals held in total

Fifty Albanians prisoners on prisons of the United Kingdom will be sent to Albanian prisons to serve the full sentence imposed on them by UK judges, according to a report in the British newspaper “Daily Mail». The first ten prisoners will be deported with charter flight the first weeks of January. Albanian criminals account for almost 10% of foreign nationals in British prisons with prisoners having volunteered to be transferred from British prisons to Albanian ones as part of a new agreement.

The British in this way, which paves the way for the removal of hundreds of imprisoned Albanian criminals, will save million pounds. Until now, Home Office deportations in Tirana have involved either criminals who had already served their sentences in the UK, or people who they crossed into Britain illegallyafter they crossed the English Channel with boats.

An Albanian government img said talks between Britain’s Ministry of Justice and Albanian minister Ulsi Manja had led to an agreement on the first transfers. “We have limited capacity in our prisons. But to show that we are ready to fulfill our obligations to the United Kingdom, we have agreed to accept 50 Albanians who have themselves expressed a willingness to return,” the img added.

A total of 1,336 Albanians imprisoned in Britain

Albanian nationals account for around 10% of foreigners held in English and Welsh prisons. At last count there were more than 1,336 Albanians imprisoned in Britain, the largest number of overseas criminals in prison.

Although the first group of deportees has voluntarily agreed to return, the Albania-Britain agreement states that detainees can, in the future, be transferred without their consent. The Albanians thugswho are serving the longest prison sentences are two murderers and three drug lords, who are currently serving a total of 143 years – at a cost to the British public £6,864,000 in today’s prices.

The convicted killers include former garage worker Koci Selamai, 37, who is serving the longest sentence among the 1,336 Albanian prisoners. He killed Sabina Nessa in a London park in September 2021 and was jailed for 36 years. Another killer, Ali Qazimaj, 48, from Tilbury, Essex, was jailed for 35 years in 2017 for the murder of Peter Stewart, 75, whose wife Silvia, 69, has never been found.

Block’ in the provision of asylum

From her growing pressure to limit the arrival of migrants in small boats to English shores, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced earlier this month plans to tackle Britain’s long backlog of asylum applications and to speedy return of most Albanians seeking refugee status. The British Prime Minister described how a recent deal with Tirana could help combat it illegal immigration. He stated that the changes being prepared would allow asylum for Albanians to be declared “obviously unfounded. And added “In the coming months, thousands of Albanians will return to their homes.”
