Britain: Stopped all trains on September 26

British rail staff are going on a 24-hour strike on September 26 over pay, job security and working conditions, a union announced today, the latest in a series of strikes across Britain as inflation outpaces pay rises.

The Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) has announced it is lobbying for a revised pay deal for operating company staff of trainsafter rejecting an “insulting” proposal for a 2% increase.

The union is still in talks over a possible settlement with Network Rail, the public sector company that owns and manages most of Britain’s rail network and rail infrastructure.

“I welcome the fact that negotiations are continuing with Network Rail and the gap to a decision is closing. Time will tell if an agreement can be reached to prevent our next strike,” said TSSA chief Manuel Cortes.

This strike will coincide with the annual conference of Britain’s opposition Labor Party in Liverpool, according to the TSSA, APE-MPE reports, citing Reuters.

Inflation in Britain it hit 10% in July, with forecasts pointing to further rises that could exacerbate a cost-of-living crisis fueled mainly by rising energy bills.
