British author Nicholas Evans, who wrote the bestselling “The Horse Whisperer” which was made into a movie, has died of a heart attack at the age of 72, his agent announced today.
His death occurred on August 9, but came to light nearly a week later with a statement: “United Agents is saddened to announce the death of renowned author Nicholas Evans, who died suddenly on Tuesday following a myocardial infarction.”
Born in central England in 1950, Nicholas Evans studied law at Oxford before becoming a journalist in the local press and then on television.
He was best known for his hugely successful first novel, The Horse Whisperer, which was published in 1995 and sold 15 million copies worldwide.
The novel deals with the story of a young girl who is seriously injured in an accident with a horse, in which her best friend is killed and the animal is also seriously injured. To cure her, her mother decides on a mission to Montana where lives the “keeper” Tom Booker who has the reputation of being able to take care of the most difficult horses.
The book was adapted into a film by Robert Redford, director, actor and producer of this hymn to wide horizons, unspoiled nature and horses.
The film, which was first shown in cinemas in 1998, starring Scarlett Johansson and Kristin Scott Thomas, was nominated for an Oscar but did not receive any awards.
