British utility Thames Water announced yesterday, Tuesday (28/9) that it will extend an existing ban on irrigation hoses gardensas “water levels in our rivers are lower than usual” despite recent rainfall.
“This year has been one of the driest on record, with 10 of the last 12 months recording less than rainfall than average rainfall,” said a company representative.
“The water levels in our reservoirs continue to remain below average and it will take much more rain for water levels to return to normal,” he said, according to the Athens News Agency.
The original ban on British watering hoses was imposed on August 24, after the country recorded the highest temperatures ever recorded at 40.3 degrees Celsius during an unprecedented heat wave.
The spokesman declined to announce a specific day when asked about the exact duration of the ban, saying it “will depend on the weather”.
Thames Water is one of the largest water utilities in the country and serves 15 million customers.
