The British Ministry of Defense said on Saturday that the bulk of the Russian forces that took part in the advance in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, is now 30 kilometers from the city center.
Britain, which had previously denied Russian reports that Russian forces had occupied the southeastern city of Melitopol, said the Ukrainian army was continuing to put up strong resistance across the country.
“Russian forces continued their advance towards Kiev with the bulk of their forces now 30 km from the city center,” the Pentagon said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“Russia has not yet gained control of the airspace over Ukraine, significantly reducing the efficiency of the Russian air force. The Russian losses are likely to be heavy and greater than expected or recognized by the Kremlin,” he said.
