Britain: The last moments of 12-year-old Archie – The descriptions of her mother and aunt are shocking

Her 12-year-old Archie breathed his last, following a lengthy legal battle to prevent life-support treatment from being withdrawn. So the child ended up when doctors at the London hospital stopped the medication and then the oxygen supply.

Later the mother and aunt of Archie Battersby they spoke to reporters for his tragic last moments.

“It is with profound sadness that we inform you that Archie passed away at 12.15pm today. I can say I’m the proudest mum in the world, such a beautiful little boy and he fought to the end – and I’m so proud to be his mum.”

His aunt, Ella Carter, spoke about the boy’s final moments, describing a dramatic situation that was exactly what the family wanted to avoid.

“He was taken off all medication at 10 o’clock. All readings remained absolutely stable for two hours until they reduced ventilation. And then it turned completely blue.”, he said. As he added: “There is absolutely nothing dignified about watching a family member or child suffocate. No family should ever have to go through what we went through, it’s barbaric.”

The family had requested that the boy be moved from the hospital to a relief center where he would “fade out” next to his family with dignity, the family said. However the appeal was rejected when the court sided with the doctors which they estimated that it would be dangerous for the boy’s life.

Initially his parents had fought against the decision to stop the support, it was rejected at first instance and in the Court of Appeal, but also by the European Court of Human Rights which ruled that has no jurisdiction.

Archie was in a coma since April 7because he had taken part in an online challenge as he was found with a cable wrapped around his neck. Doctors thought he had no hope of recovery.
