Britain: Twelve underage girls formed a “suicide” group on Instagram

A team… suicides on Instagram with the participation of twelve teenage girls from the south of England which led to “serious self-injuries” and “suicidal crises” was identified by the police.

According to the BBC, the group, consisting of girls aged 12 to 16, came into the spotlight when three of them disappeared.

The teenagers had traveled by train to London, but were found in a bad condition on the road, as a result of which they were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

According to the police information, the girls were talking about suicide in an online meeting.

The newspaper adds that “the influence of the interlocutors has increased the suicidal fantasy to the extent that many escalated into suicidal crises and serious self-injuries.”

Seven of the twelve girls had injured themselves before being located by police. Child welfare services from seven different local authorities have been involved in the custody of children identified as team members.

The Instagram, which last year released a machine learning technology that can detect suicide and self-harm content, said the language used in the messages did not violate its rules.
