Britain’s new monarch will be known as King Charles III

Charles immediately became king after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday (8).

In the announcement of the monarch’s death, the royal family referred to Charles as king and his wife, Camilla, as “Queen Consort”.

Royal residence Clarence House has confirmed that the new monarch will be known as King Charles III, as reported by PA Media. Upon becoming the sovereign, Charles had the option of adopting any name for his reign.

As heir apparent from the age of three, he was the longest-serving heir to the throne in British history.

Since the queen’s health began to show signs of frailty this year, Charles has started to take on some of his mother’s commitments, such as State Opening of Parliament.

Shortly after the confirmation of the queen’s death, King Charles III released an official statement regretting what had happened.

“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of greatest sadness for me and all my family members. We deeply regret the passing of a dear Sovereign and a much-loved mother,” she said.

The monarch spoke briefly about what the next few days should be like. “I know your loss will be deeply felt across the land, in the realms and in the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this time of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection with which the Queen was widely regarded.”

THE CNN a royal spokesman said the king is expected to deliver a speech tomorrow (9).
