Russia is likely deploying anti-personnel mines along its front line of defense in Ukraine’s Donbas, part of which it has seized, according to British military intelligence, which did not cite its source.
In Donetsk and Kramatorsk, Russia is likely to have deployed PFM-1 and PFM-1S anti-personnel mines, commonly called “fly mines,” the UK Ministry of Defense said on its Twitter account.
These are “extremely controversial weapons, which hit people indiscriminately”, note the British.
Reuters could not confirm or deny the information.
The US recently announced that it is ending the use of anti-personnel mines worldwide outside of the Korean Peninsula due to the special circumstances of the conflict there.
