British Foreign Secretary considers speeding up sanctions on Russia

British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras said today that she was considering speeding up the process of imposing sanctions on Russian companies and individuals following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

The British government has been criticized for being too late in enforcing sanctions. So far, sanctions have been imposed on at least 14 Russians, including the freezing of assets of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Asked during a visit to Brussels why Britain is slower in enforcing sanctions than other countries, Tras replied: “We have imposed sanctions on more companies than our counterparts in the world, just last night we imposed sanctions on two other big oligarchs. “What I’m doing is looking at how we can speed up this process to make even more progress on this front.”
