British Foreign Secretary: In favor of de-escalation of tension between Russia and Ukraine

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said today in Budapest that it was important to escalate tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as a war would cause more instability, rising fuel prices and migratory flows.

Wallace also voiced support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s planned visit to Russia tomorrow to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding “we need to de-escalate this and support Ukraine’s right to self-determination.”

Hungarian Defense Minister Tibor Benko noted during the same press conference that at the moment there is no need to deploy NATO troops in his country.

Orban, whose country is a NATO ally, has relatively good relations with Russia despite tensions between the Alliance and Moscow over Ukraine.
