British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras said today that it was “clear” that the Russian military had committed war crimes with civilian casualties in Ukraine.
Yesterday Sunday, Reuters obtained images of corpses in the town of Butsa. In one shot, a dead man can be seen on the side of the road, with his hands tied to a pole and a bullet wound to the head. The deputy mayor of the Ukrainian city said that 50 residents were executed by Russian soldiers.
“We are all shocked by the scenes in Buca, the massacre, the clear evidence of sexual crimes, the targeting of innocent civilians. It is clear that war crimes have been committed,” Tras told a news conference in Poland. “On the issue of genocide, this is something that the courts will decide,” he added.
London calls for suspension of Russia’s participation in UN Human Rights Council
Russia’s participation in the UN Human Rights Council should be suspended, British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras said today after the discovery of bodies and mass graves in the Ukrainian city of Butsa.
“Given the strong evidence of war crimes, including reports of mass graves and heinous massacres in Bhutan, Russia can not remain a member of the UN Human Rights Council,” he said on Twitter. “Russia’s participation must be suspended,” he said.
Earlier, the British Foreign Secretary said she would visit Poland today to call for tougher sanctions against Russia, her office said. “Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet shown that he takes diplomacy seriously. A tough approach by the United Kingdom and our allies is vital to strengthening the Ukrainian side in the negotiations,” she said.
