British intelligence: Russia implements Chechen and Syrian tactics in Ukraine

The British military intelligence service said on Sunday that Russian forces were targeting populated areas in Ukraine, but that the country’s resistance force was slowing down Russian advance, according to Reuters.

“The scale and strength of the Ukrainian resistance continues to amaze Russia,” the British military intelligence service said in a statement. Russia has “responded by targeting residential areas in many locations, including Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Mariupol.”

“Russia has used similar tactics in the past in Chechnya in 1999 and in Syria in 2016, using both air and ground ammunition,” the British military said in a statement. Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilian areas.
