British police arrested a man armed with a sword after several people were attacked in northeast London on Tuesday (30)

The 36-year-old man was arrested after police were called to reports of a vehicle driving into a house in the area of ​​Hainault train station, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Police said the suspect attacked members of the public and two police officers.

“This is a shocking incident. My thoughts are with those affected and their families. I would like to thank the emergency services for their continued response and pay tribute to the extraordinary courage shown by police at the scene,” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Such violence has no place on our streets,” concluded Sunak.

Authorities said the incident did not appear to be terrorism-related and they were not looking for additional suspects.

“This must have been a terrible incident for those involved. I know the wider community will be shocked and alarmed,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Ade Adelekan.

“We do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the broader community.”

“I am being regularly updated on the incident at Hainault station this morning,” said British Home Secretary James Cleverly on X (formerly Twitter).

“My thoughts are with those who have been affected,” he added.
