British prime minister criticized for party during lockdown

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was bombed on Tuesday (11) after information emerged that his secretary had invited more than 100 people to a party where “everyone takes their drink” in the garden of the official residence of Downing Street during the first coronavirus lockdown.

Johnson, who won the 2019 election by hand, has been heavily criticized in the last month after a video that shows his staff laughing and joking about a party in Downing Street during the 2020 Christmas lockdown.

The revelations about a string of parties in Downing Street have met popular derision with criticism from opposition Labor leader Keir Starmer, who said Johnson lacked the moral authority to lead the country.

Johnson and his partner Carrie were among those who met with about 40 employees in the Downing Street garden on May 20, 2020, after Chief Private Secretary Martin Reynolds sent an email with the invitation, ITV reported.

“After an incredibly busy period, we thought it would be nice to make the most of the nice weather and have a few drinks with social distancing in the garden at No. 10 tonight,” Reynolds said in the email. “Join us from 6pm and bring your own drink!”

At the time of the party, schools were closed to most students, pubs and restaurants were closed, and there were strict controls on social gatherings. People were prohibited from personally saying goodbye to dying relatives.

Police prosecuted party-goers, erected checkpoints in some areas of the country and used drones to monitor some gathering places.
