Britain’s Royal Mint on Thursday released commemorative coins, including the 50 pence and £5 coins, to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III next month.
The collection features the first depiction of Charles wearing the crown, on a coin created especially for the May 6 ceremony, which will be held at Westminster Abbey in London.
Designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings – who also created the uncrowned depiction of Charles unveiled last year – it shows the monarch wearing the Tudor crown.
Although the crown was destroyed in the 1640s, it appears in portraits of crowned kings from the 20th century, according to the Royal Mint.
The new 50 pence coin is adorned with a depiction of Westminster Abbey, created by Royal Mint designer Natasha Jenkins, along with the king’s cipher and crown.
The £5 also features the crowned portrait of Charles on one side, and a drawing of the Tudor crown on the other by artist Timothy Noad.
The new range will go on sale on April 24th.
