British Virgin Islands: A motion of censure to remove Andrew Foy from power

The acting Prime Minister of the British Virgin Islands, Natalie Whitley, today proposed a vote of no confidence in Andrew Foy in Parliament, stressing that the Prime Minister-elect can no longer rule after his arrest in Miami last week. categories related to drug trafficking.

“Reverend Andrew Foy has lost the moral prestige that would have allowed him to lead the (British) Virgin Islands,” Whitley said, adding that he could no longer remain in power.

Andrew Foy, 51, was arrested at a Miami airport along with the director of the British Virgin Islands Port Authority, Oleanvin Maynard, on a warrant issued by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He faces charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Last week, the findings of a committee proposing the suspension of the Constitution and the dissolution of the local parliament, in order for the governance of the British overseas territory in the Caribbean to pass directly to London, had come to light.
