British warlords ‘illegal’ to fight in Ukraine, says British Armed Forces chief

The commander of the British Armed Forces, Admiral Tony Radakin, said today that it was “illegal and unnecessary” for the British to go and fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, following Kiev’s call for foreign volunteer fighters.

“We were very clear that the start of the transition to Ukraine is illegal and unnecessary for the British army and the British people,” he told the BBC.

The Ukrainian presidency of Zelensky announced in late February the creation of an “international legion” of foreign fighters to help repel the Russian invasion, inviting volunteers to join it.

Volunteers are invited to visit the Ukrainian embassies in their countries.

President Zelensky had previously called on Europeans with combat experience to travel to Ukraine to fight the Russian army.

Following the call, British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras said she supported Britons who wanted to volunteer.

“As professional soldiers, we say that does not necessarily make sense,” Radakin said.
