Britney Spears rebuts sister’s revelations in book: “Never had to work”

Britney Spears wasted no time in answering his sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, and his statement to “Good Morning America” last Wednesday (12).

This Thursday (13), the singer took to social media to counter Jamie Lynn and her version of the relationship between the two, as well as the family custody process of Britney, which lasted 13 years.

In a series of statements on Twitter, with prints of a letter, the singer accused Jamie Lynn of not truly caring about her, and of now taking advantage of the situation to make money.

The actress released this week a memoir entitled “Things I Should Have Said”, in which she tries to rebut the accusations of having participated in the legal guardianship of Britney, controlled by the father of both, Jamie Spears. “Why are they talking about this unless she wants to sell a book at my expense??? Really???,” Britney wrote in her post.

“One of the things that bothers me about what my sister said is that I was out of control. She has never been on my side in these 15 years,” said the artist. Britney’s tutelage began in 2008, after a few episodes of mental breakdown by the singer.

Jamie’s control over her daughter’s career, finances and personal life ended in November 2021 when a court found the custody abusive. “My family has ruined my dreams 100 billion times and tried to make me look crazy. My family loves to bring me down and hurt me,” Britney confessed in the letter.

In the post, he still comments on the controversy over the 2017 Radio Disney Awards, when Jamie Lynn performed singing a remix of Britney’s songs. “I know it might sound silly to other people, but I wrote a lot of my songs and my sister was a baby. She never had to work for anything. Everything was always given to her”, said the singer, remembering that her father never allowed her to make versions of her own music catalogue.

At the end of the statement, Britney also warned that she will take time off from social media. “The media, this medium has always been very hateful to me. I’ve given myself enough… More than enough”, he said.

Jamie Lynn responded to her sister with a statement posted on Instagram. In the text, she laments the commotion surrounding the release of her book, and claims to have no intention of hurting Britney. “There are no sides, and I don’t want to cause any more drama. I’m telling my truth to heal my traumas so I can close this chapter and move on. I wish my sister can do the same.”
