After the end of 13 years of guardianship, singer Britney Spears revealed how she plans to use her freedom. On social media, the artist said that it is the little things that make a big difference in her life and said she is grateful for each day of freedom.
Britney also revealed that she is happy to have “my car keys” back, a credit card and cash, as well as “being able to be independent”.
The “Stronger” interpreter posted a video on social media in which she spoke about her desire to be “an advocate for people with real disabilities” and that she hopes her story will make an impact and change the justice system.
End of guardianship of Jamie Spears
Spears’ personal life and $60 million estate were overseen by her father, Jamie Spears, under a 13-year guardianship, which ended last week after a long battle in the US courts.
For years, even while performing in packed arenas around the world, she was limited to a personal allowance of about $2,000 a week, according to court documents.
Until recently, she was not allowed to drive her own car.
In a statement in June, the singer called for an end to her “stupid and abusive” guardianship, claiming she was traumatized and angry and wanted her life back.
In the post, Spears also thanked the fans and the #FreeBritney movement, which was started in support of the singer, saying: “You guys are awesome”.
“I honestly think you guys saved my life,” Britney said.
I might as well do a hint of my thoughts here before I go and set things square on @Oprah 🤔😜🤷🏼♀️ !!!!! pic.twitter.com/Gf3ckusc5S
