The brother of the 15-year-old Brazilian, who died after being bombarded by Israel in Lebanon, arrived in Brazil in the early hours of this Friday (27).
Mohamed Kamal Abdalah, 16, returned with his sister, 21, on a flight that stopped in Paris, France. The final destination was Foz de Iguaçu International Airport, in Paraná, where he was born.
The man from Paraná met his mother and several friends who welcomed him at the terminal. He arrived with injuries to his hand and legs.
The teenager explained the moment of death of his brother, Ali Kamal Abdallah, and his father, Kamal Hussein Abdallah, who was of Paraguayan nationality. They passed away while working together.
“We went to help my father work and we heard the first bombing in Sohmor. The second one was in front of us on the mountain and we asked to run away and he just wanted to finish filling the water so he could work. As we filled up, everything fell and I didn’t even see anything, I couldn’t breathe anymore. I took the stones away from me and went to see my father, he was dead on the ground. My brother, I couldn’t find my brother, I was shouting his name and the people next to me were dead, I didn’t hear his voice”, said Mohamed.
The survivor also said that it was great to see his mother again. “(Very good) I stayed to at least be with her.”
Ali is the first Brazilian to die in the escalating conflict in Lebanon. His death was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, Itamaraty reported that “it was made aware, with deep regret, of the death, in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, of Brazilian teenager Ali Kamal Abdallah, aged 15, born in Foz do Iguaçu. The minor and his father, a Paraguayan national, were hit by an explosion as a result of intense Israeli aerial bombardment in the region on Monday.”
The statement also reiterates its condemnation of Israeli airstrikes against densely populated civilian areas in Lebanon and the immediate cessation of hostilities.
The ministry also states that the Brazilian Embassy in Beirut has provided full assistance to the minor’s family.
