Bruce Springsteen, Only The Strong Survive album is released today

What Bruce Springsteen has promised the audience is a musical journey into the sixties and seventies. He made it himself – and then shared it with the world – through the making of the album Only The Strong Survive (Only the strong survive), on Columbia Records / Sony Music, arriving today 11th November. The title is already a whole program because it is that of the iconic 1968 song by Jerry Butler.

The project is a reinterpretation of fifteen hits from the past selected through a very personal criterion, which draws on memories, nostalgia and musical training. He returns to his origins, in short, with a classic work recorded a stone’s throw from home, at Thrill Hill Recording.

The genesis of this adventure he told and anticipated himself on YouTube about a month ago: «During the lockdown – he explained – I closed myself in the studio to record songs that I didn’t write, of course, but that I performed. I wanted a challenge and I experienced an epiphany: I realized that I still have a voice that breaks at the venerable age of 73, like an old man who is doing quite well. The genre that inspired this lighting? Soul and gospel, one of the most powerful in the American pop repertoire ».

This time, in fact, his sound Sixties and Seventies draws on a very specific repertoire that includes – among others – Diane Ross, Levi Stubbs, Dobie Gray and Scott Walker.

For the Boss it is the album number 21, which is delivered to fans two years after the previous one, Letter To Youwhich has struck a series of audience and sales records around the world and which earned it platinum status in Italy.

Only The Strong Survive wants to be a dip in the tastes of a very young Bruce Springsteen, who formed his artistic taste on these notes. Before now, it had only happened one other time in his entire career that she performed on lyrics by him not by him (in 2006, when he honored Pete Seeger with We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions).

This date is obviously highly anticipated by fans, who meet through a tour that brings the Boss back around the world in 2023 with The E Street Band. He first plays at home starting from the United States and then touching Europe. The highly anticipated three Italian dates, already sold out: arrives on 18 May at the Giorgio Bassani Urban Park (Ferrara) to continue on 21 at the Circus Maximus in Rome and close the tricolor stages with the Autodromo Nazionale (Monza) on 25 July.
