Bruno and Dom case: hearings of those accused of the deaths begin this Monday (20)

The instruction hearings of those accused of murdering Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips begin this Monday (20th), in Tabatinga, Amazonas. Testimonials continue until Wednesday (22). The parties and witnesses must be heard remotely.

The hearings were even scheduled by the Federal Court of Amazonas for the 23rd, 24th and 25th of January but were postponed.

Those accused of involvement in the case, Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, his brother, Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, and Jeferson da Silva Lima remain in federal prisons. The three men became defendants on July 22, 2022 and must answer for double qualified homicide and concealment of a corpse.

In addition to them, Rubem Dário Da Silva Villar, known as “Colombia”, was appointed by the Federal Police (PF) as the mastermind of the homicides. Colombia has been imprisoned since December of last year. He was even released but had his prison decreed again by the Federal Court after failing to comply with the conditions imposed for provisional release.

Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips were killed in June 2022 in the vicinity of Vale do Javari. Ten days after they were last seen, the remains of the two were found. The crime took place in a region that is home to one of the largest and most important indigenous lands in the country, an area marked by conflicts over drug trafficking, illegal fishing and mining.

Due to this scenario, Minister Rosa Weber, president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the National Council of Justice (CNJ) will be in Tabatinga this Monday (20th) for an agenda that includes dialogues with indigenous leaders and the reinforcement of state presence in the region.
