BSE event for the presentation of the guide ‘Work without violence and harassment’

“Violence and harassment at work is a crucial issue. The adoption by companies of measures and policies to prevent and combat violence and harassment at work is not only mandatory but also necessary, not only to promote broader social goals, such as the elimination of discrimination, the respect for diversity and the preservation of the dignity of every individual, but also because it contributes to the smooth and more productive operation of every business “.

With this key message, and with the help of the BSE Guide to Business for Work Without Violence and Harassment, the Association for Diversity, Inclusion and Equality organized an open digital event on “Work Without Violence and Harassment: BSE Guide for Business “yesterday, (Monday, May 16, 2022). The event was addressed by, among others, Mrs. Maria Syregela, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in charge of Demographic Policy and Family and the head of the Group for Diversity, Inclusion and Equality and member of the Board of SEV Mr. Ioulia Tsetis.

Welcoming the participants, General Manager Alexandros Hatzopoulos stressed that “in BSE – beyond the issue of principle and values ​​- the creation of a culture and a way of doing business, which will strengthen trust between companies and employees and all related issues are at the core As we have done in the past on most issues, we are interested in the spirit and not just the letter of the regulations. we are also custodians here “, Mr. Hatzopoulos also pointed out.

Then Mrs. Ioulia Tseti, member of the Board of SEV and head of the Group for Diversity, Inclusion and Equality, referred to the importance of the BSE initiative to proceed with the creation of the Group and noted that “the Guide is the first action of the Group created to to support companies in the implementation of the provisions of law 4808/21.

The Guide – stressed Ms. Cheti – is addressed in particular, firstly to executives of the human resources departments who are presumed to have the relevant competence and secondly to all the high-ranking executives of the companies who must be familiar with the new legal framework. In addition to the Guide, we have created a short text in the form of Q&A questions and answers, which aims to support companies in informing their employees about the provisions of the law.

Ms. Cheti also pointed out that companies, especially those with a global orientation, must now include such concepts in their value system and promote behaviors that have the utmost respect for human dignity.

“As a society, we have at our disposal a variety of international, European treaties and Law 4808/21 and national legislation that fully supports us. It is up to us to take the necessary actions and to improve the working environment as much as possible, for the benefit The BSE Group is now starting its work, which means that we need to thoroughly explain this new action and policy to companies, so that employees can become part of the project and not just employers “, she concluded in her intervention.

“For our government, the issue of preventing and combating violence and harassment at work is a priority,” Maria Syregela, Undersecretary of Labor and Social Affairs in charge of Demographic Policy, Family and Gender Equality, told event. Recognizing the importance of the BSE initiative to create a business-oriented guide to preventing and combating violence and harassment at work, Ms. Syregela outlined initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to create in practice a comprehensive set of actions to prevent, address and combat forms of violent behavior and harassment at work, with the aim of protecting workers – women and men.

Mr. Giannis Sidiropoulos, Policy Expert SEV presenting the Guide stressed, among other things, that with Law 4808/2021 (Part II), an attempt is made to form in Greece a modern, comprehensive and coherent institutional framework, especially for the prevention and combating work-related violence and harassment. The correct implementation of its forecasts is estimated to contribute to the promotion of the above objectives, with mutual benefits for both companies and employees, employees and other categories of persons falling within the scope.

The perspective of the human resources management executives was conveyed in his intervention by Mr. Sotiris Stamatiou, President of SDADE, while interesting and didactic cases of application were developed by the lawyer Mr. Ioannis A. Vagias.
