BSE: Short-term energy measures are needed and in the right direction

The Association of Enterprises and Industries supports European decisions on freedom, democracy and security and describes short-term energy measures as “necessary and in the right direction”.

As SEV points out in a statement, the need to address the structural issues of the energy transition is more relevant than ever for the long-term competitiveness of Greek companies.

The BSE announcement states in detail:

“With the violation of international law and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, peace has been violated on our continent, human lives are being lost, and fundamental principles of freedom and democracy are being threatened. These are non-negotiable bases of our life in Europe and we to defend them vigorously, as it does the European business family as a whole, supporting the decisions of European leaders to impose sanctions on Russia. At the same time, we stand with the people of Ukraine and the many refugees who are being forced to emigrate. offering humanitarian aidin coordination with civil society organizations.

It is particularly hopeful that the European Union reacted as a real union and showed quick reflexes at a high political level. We hope that it will continue to show the same determination on other extremely critical issues for European societies and economies, such as the humanitarian crisis and the new wave of refugees from Ukraine, but also in tackling the dramatic rise in energy prices and the unfavorable its effects on households and businesses, both directly and in the medium term.

At the national level, in terms of extremely large energy crisis triggered by developments in Ukraine, the Government, utilizing the European framework, announced today a series of measures in the right direction. It measures will help to mitigate the immediate negative consequences for society and businesses, and especially for industrial and manufacturing activities of all sectors and company sizes, faced major high-cost issues for the continued operation, the Department of Energy significantly broadens the short-term support.

At the same time as dealing with the immediate effects of the energy crisis, the duration of which is currently impossible to predict, we must – by designing and acting long-term – accelerate the effort to maximize the resilience and competitiveness of our economy. The catalyst in this effort is the promotion of structural reforms and investments in the context of the energy transition, so that the cost of energy for Greek companies becomes competitive in the long run. “The time we are gaining today with support measures for society and business must be utilized in the best possible way, so that, by contributing and working together, we can protect and develop the productive fabric of the country.”
