The construction of the gas pipeline between Bulgaria and Greece will be completed by the end of June, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov told reporters today during an inspection of the construction of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector from the village of Malko Cantievo near the town of Santa. in southern Bulgaria, together with the Minister of Energy.
According to Petkov, work on the project over the past three months has progressed as much as last year. He pointed out that he has very good communication with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The pipelines have been laid, and the gas will flow on July 1, according to Energy Minister Nikolai Nikolov. The investment decision for the project was adopted in 2015. The project is implemented by the IGB consortium, in which the Bulgarian state, through the holding company Bulgarian Energy Holding, and the Greek-Italian company IGI Poseidon participate with equal shares. According to Minister Nikolov, there is a possibility to increase the capacity from three to five billion cubic meters per year, given the imminent commissioning of the planned terminal in Alexandroupolis, where the Bulgarian state already holds a 20% share.
Kirill Petkov stressed the importance of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector for the diversification of gas supply sources.
